James DeGale’s opponent for the October 30th bout at Liverpool’s Echo Arena has been confirmed as Ally Morrison. 32 year-old Cumbrian Morrison is undefeated in 3 professional fights and will be taking on the Olympic Gold Medalist in a Four round contest.

The fight will mark DeGale’s fourth professional fight and will be part of a superb undercard for the Kell Brook v Michael Jennings clash for the British Welterweight title. Also featured in Liverpool is Tony Quigley v Paul Smith for the British Super-Middleweight title as well as Tony Bellew, Frankie Gavin, Stephen Smith and Jamie Cox amongst others.

It will be a welcome return to the ring for DeGale who has not fought since July, when he demolished Ciaran Healy inside a round in Manchester. Nevertheless, the man known as ‘Chunky’ has been training hard, even heading out to the States to train with Pound for Pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr, something the young Brit described as “the experience of a lifetime”.

The Londoner is looking forward to fighting in Liverpool too, and will be hoping for another good reception from the local fans. “I’ve got some really good memories of Liverpool, it’s a brilliant fight city and I can’t wait to box here,” said DeGale.

“The people on Merseyside really know their boxing, and whenever I’ve fought here before I’ve got a warm reception.”
