DeGale on Groves: “He’s getting knocked out.”

31 08 2010

James DeGale has told The Sun’s Gavin Glicksman he’s hoping for a showdown with rival George Groves within the next 18 months.

DeGale, who takes on Carl Dilks in a British title eliminator in Birmingham on September 18th, admitted the British title is his main aim, but should that come off he has his sights set on a British and Commonwealth unification fight with old amateur foe Groves.

“Hopefully when I’m British champion, assuming he keeps winning, we can have a big showdown by the end of next year”, DeGale told The Sun.

The war of words between the pair has intensified over the last year with DeGale repeatedly referring to his rival as the “ugly ginger kid”, whilst Groves has stated “I would knock James DeGale out in two rounds”. But DeGale has once again stoked the fire saying:

“What a silly guy. You know what, he just makes me laugh.

“I don’t know who’s feeding him this rubbish but all I can say to him is please God carry on winning.

“Obviously I’m going to keep on winning and then I can knock this ugly ginger kid out. Finito!

“But you know what, I’d rather knock him out now so he can have a couple of months off, rebuild his career and earn some money.

“He’s a silly boy, but please believe me when I do box him he’s getting knocked out.”
