Groves blasts James ‘Destined to fail’ DeGale

3 09 2010

George Groves has dismissed rival James DeGale’s forthcoming British title eliminator as “scandalous”.

DeGale faces Carl Dilks, an opponent originally lined up for Groves, on September 18th in an eliminator for the British title Paul Smith is likely to vacate.

But Commonwealth champion Groves believes he should be the mandatory challenger for the domestic super-middleweight crown.

The Saint said: “It’s sad the powers that be have granted my old friend James ‘destined to fail’ DeGale a British title eliminator.

“It may not seem like much on the surface but to me it looks like he’s being conveniently slipped in to fight for the soon to be vacant British title.

“He’s openly stated how his best friend Smith is going to vacate after his next fight due to the fact he’s going to box for bigger and better things.

“He’ll probably come through unscathed against Dilks, even though the way he boxes makes you think he’s been trained by Peggy Mitchell in the handbag section of TK Maxx.

“You get that impression from the way he bitches inside and outside the ring.

“If he gets the title, it will be scandalous.”
